Policies & Procedures

Access

Access to the ICRC data center will only be granted to Labs with purchased rack space. After purchase users wishing to gain access to the data center must send mail to rt@c2b2.columbia.edu to schedule a date/time. ICRC data centers are open Monday thru Friday 9 to 5pm. Off hours access to the data centers must be scheduled two weeks ahead in order to gain access. Users requiring access to the data center multiple times durring the day must specify this in their request.

Best Practices

  • Labs purchasing rack and computer equipment should consult with ARCS prior to purchase.
  • Equipment deliveries Please use the address below and please put it to your attention. When equipment arrives please be available to inspect and accept delivery. Notify ARCS via rt@c2b2.columbia.edu ASAP when equipment arrives so we may give you access to the data center. ARCS will not be responsible for lost and/or damaged equipment.

  • Arrangements for networking your rack should be made with Columbia's CORE networking group. ARCS can provide the necessary contact information.
  • If you hear any alarms in the data center please report it to the security desk immediately.

Rules

  • Labs purchasing rack space in the data center must notify ARCS if the systems are planned to house HIPAA or PHI data. ARCS will notify CUIT security for instruction on how to adhere to HIPAA regulations prior to system installation.
  • Labs are to install computer equipment neatly inside the rack. No computer equipment may rest outside of the computer rack.
  • Labs shall notify ARCS (via mail to rt@c2b2.columbia.edu) of any equipment deliveries.
  • Food or drinks are not allowed in the data center.
  • Data center is open from 9am to 5pm Monday thru Friday.
  • Trash should be placed next to the trash bins. Please notify ARCS to arrange trash removal. Occupants may keep equipment boxes until their systems are tested and operational. Please keep boxes next to your rack and do not block floor air vents.
  • Data center doors are to stay locked at all times. Do NOT leave the data center door propped open or alter the door lock in any way.
  • Turn off lights when exiting the data center. Please make sure there is no one present in the data center.

Violations

Any failure to adhere to these policies is a violation of C2B2 use guidelines and will result in equipment removal and in some cases legal action may be required.
