Supported Operating Systems
Desktop Systems
I. Best Practices
Users should always try to stay current with the latest operating systems and updates. Older systems my have computing resource limitations with newer operating systems so please consult ARCS when deciding to upgrade.
II. Rules
As stated in the desktop policies section ARCS will only support systems that are installed and configured by ARCS. ARCS will NOT install licensed products without proof of purchase. Linux users may choose to use another flavor of Linux not listed below, if so, it shall be the user's responsibility to install/configure/troubleshoot their system. ARCS will provide the user with the necessary network information needed to configure the system.
As of 2012 ARCS will be responsible for the full support of the following operating systems below:
Desktops
Windows: XP, Vista and 7 professional. Home version of windows is not supported.
Mac OS X: Licensed versions of 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7.
Linux: CentOS 5, Fedora 12 and above and licensed version of Redhat.
Servers
Windows: 2008 windows server.
Linux: CentOS 5, Fedora 12 and above and licensed version of Redhat Enterprise Server.
III. Violations
ARCS takes a zero-tolerance policy on software license violations. It is the policy of ARCS that all software licensing shall not exceed the limit of licenses purchased. Any user who knowingly violates these policies may be subject to account suspension, and computer systems on which the software is installed may be erased. Additionally, violation of software licensing terms may constitute a legal violation and/or a violation of CUMC IT, CUIT, and/or Columbia polices.
