The Synteny component allows regions within or between chromosomes to be compared. The two regions can come from the same or different species. Three choices of comparison program are offered:

  • MUMmer
  • Dots
  • SyntenyMap

A graphical output is produced as a dot-matrix. Annotations derived primarily from the UCSC Golden Path database are shown on the diagram edges. Individual annotation tracks can be turned on and off in the Annotations tab. The actual programs performing the synteny calculations are hosted on a server at the Columbia University Joint Centers for Systems Biology.
